Other Things to do at Big Sur Besides the Marathon

MB and I were in Monterrey, CA for a glorious 6 days.  While most of that time was spent running, resting and generally staying off our feet, we did manage to have quite a bit of fun.  And you can too when you inevitably register for this race.  Because everyone should.

Hang out in downtown Monterrey and go to the expo

The expo is hosted at a host hotel in downtown Monterrey right by the warf.  The host hotels for the race sold out almost immediately which forced us to stay at the Hyatt Regency Golf Resort.  While it was amazing, obviously, it was a huge pain because we didn’t rent a car.  My official advice is to make your reservation at the host hotel immediately upon registration. If you can’t —  rent a car.  I don’t know why we didn’t rent a car but regardless it was a lot of taxiing to and fro which meant that we had to make the most of our time when we made to our location.  All that to say downtown Monterrey is adorable. It’s right on the water with tons of great places to eat, kitshcy tourist places to wander and lots of great people watching.  The expo was also outstanding.  Definitely worth the cab ride to wander around for the day before back to the hotel for legs up the wall.

Run the shake out with Bart Yasso and Runner’s World

The Saturday before the marathon, Runner’s World, one of the major sponsors of the race, has the chief running office, Bart Yasso, host a little shakeout run.  Mandy, because she’s amazing, has done other shakeouts with Bart and insisted that we attend.  MB and I cabbed back downtown and we ran on the beach.  Also, make sure to make an amazing friend like Mandy immediately if not sooner {you can be friends with her but she’s my online bestie so back off}.  Mandy was unbelievably supportive, helpful and loving.  I feel so grateful every time I think back on this race that Mandy was there {she also brought Jonathan who is awesome, too!!}

Maybe the best part of the morning was when we wanted to take a selfie with Bart and he yelled SELFIE the whole time.  We loved it.

Go to Carmel

After dominating the race, we cabbed to Carmel on Monday to take in the little beach-side town.  It certainly did not disappoint.  Tons of fabulous little shops, restaurants and lots of beautiful scenery.  MB and I love wandering around and taking in the sites and sounds.  This should definitely be on your list.
